About

Bemidji’s oldest ski event, the 43rd Annual Buena Vista Snowjourn race and tour, will be staged Sunday, March 2nd at 10:00 am on the Buena Vista ski trails. Snowjourn features a 14K classical and skate race and a 7K tour. The 14K race involves two laps around the scenic west side trail loop, also used as part of the Minnesota Finlandia ski race. The 7K tour involves one lap around the loop. There is also a 5K middle school race. Awards will be presented to the top three male and female finishers in both the classical and skate race. Awards will also be given to top middle school finishers. There is also recognition for skiers who participate in Snowjourn traditionally with wooden skis and woolen wear. Special awards recognition includes presentation of the annual Johnson – Jarvi Snowjourn Award to an individual selected for demonstrating long term support and commitment of cross country skiing in the Bemidji area. An award will also be presented in honor of Wanda Arenz. Door prize drawings will also be held. Registration opens at 9:00 am in the Hall of Fame building.  Race costs are $25.00 for the 14K races and 7K tour and $15.00 for high school and middle school skiers. Buena Vista Snowjourn is also part of the Buena Vista Ski Area’s 75th Anniversary celebration. For more information contact Bruce Slinkman, Buena Vista Snowjourn Race Director, (218) 556-4902.
