Birding
Bemidji, located in northwest Minnesota, is at the confluence of three major ecological biomes found
in Minnesota.  Although Bemidji is situated in the northern conifer forest, it is only 40 miles to the south
west that deciduous forest with its oaks and maples is found.  80 miles to the west, is the Red River
Valley, and the native prairie remnants there.
Bemidji is an excellent hub for excursions to birding 'hot spot's.  Many unique species can be sighted
within the city limits, with additional hot spots just 10 minutes to 60 minutes away.
Lake Bemidji State Park is a premier bird watching spot, with birding events held bi-annually.
The Headwaters Science Center provides educational birding programs, including a Raptor Rehabilitation
Project.
